Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral, Ciudad Victoria

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral features a three-body tower with a dome crowned by an iron cross and a clock in its second section.

The structure became the cathedral headquarters in 1962, replacing the previous Cathedral of Our Lady of Refuge which received basilica status from Pope John Paul II.

The cathedral interior contains Corinthian-style striated columns and displays a wooden altar crafted in neoclassical style with the Sacred Heart of Jesus image.

Bishop Ignacio Montes de Oca y Obregón delivered an important homily during the solemn ordination ceremony at the new cathedral in 1879.
