Montemorelos, Agricultural town in Nuevo León, Mexico

Montemorelos is a town nestled in a valley in Nuevo León, positioned near the Madre Oriental mountains and crossed by the Pilón River. The settlement features a compact central area surrounded by agricultural lands, predominantly orchards and citrus fields that extend across the surrounding terrain.

The settlement originated in 1665 when a Spanish military commander established an outpost near the Pilón River and gave it an initial name tied to Saint Matthew. Over centuries, the outpost gradually transformed into a farming community centered on agricultural production.

Orange cultivation has shaped community life here for generations, with farming traditions visible in how locals work and speak about their surroundings. The citrus harvest remains woven into the rhythm of daily activities and family routines throughout the year.

Summers are warm and dry, while winters become cooler, so plan your visit with seasonal weather in mind. Comfortable walking shoes work well for exploring the town center and the surrounding agricultural fields at a leisurely pace.

One of Latin America's earliest fruit processing facilities was established in this region, marking a significant shift in how local oranges could be transformed and distributed. This facility enabled the town to become known as the Orange Capital of the region by processing harvests at an industrial scale.
