Mérida Cathedral, Renaissance cathedral in Mérida, Mexico.
The cathedral spans three naves with coffered vaults in the central section and Gothic lacework patterns adorning the lateral sections of the building.
Construction began in 1562 using stones from a former Maya temple, making it one of the oldest cathedrals in the Americas under King Philip II's orders.
The Christ of Unity statue behind the main altar represents the connection between Spanish and Maya populations during the colonial period in Yucatan.
The cathedral opens daily for visitors, who can explore the interior architecture, religious artifacts, and two Moorish-style towers during regular church hours.
The Christ of the Blisters statue, located in the left chapel, survived a church fire in Ichmul without burning, despite being darkened by intense heat.
