Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo, Wildlife park in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo is a wildlife park spanning about 210 acres with over 260 animal species throughout the grounds. The park houses American bison herds, zebras, lions, bears, and numerous exotic animals from different parts of the world.
The grounds were originally a cattle ranch before being transformed into a wildlife park in 2001. This conversion by Dan Franklin established the largest zoo in the state and gave the land a new purpose.
Visitors can observe different animals up close and learn about their behavior and needs through direct encounters throughout the park. This hands-on experience with wildlife creates a connection to conservation that goes beyond simply watching animals from a distance.
The park is open daily to visitors and offers plenty of opportunities to see different animal species and learn about them. Wearing comfortable shoes and allowing enough time to explore the full grounds makes for a better visit.
A special way to experience the park is riding a modified school bus with off-road tires through the bison pastures for close observation of the grazing herds. This type of wildlife viewing is a rare chance for close encounters that visitors would not otherwise have.
