Tomás Terry Theatre, Neoclassical theatre in Cienfuegos, Cuba
Tomás Terry Theatre is a neoclassical opera house in Cienfuegos with Italian architectural elements throughout its interior. The horseshoe-shaped auditorium spans four levels and accommodates around 950 spectators in total.
Construction took place between 1887 and 1889, with the building opening in 1890 for a performance of Verdi's Aida. The theatre was created to honor a Venezuelan industrialist whose name it still carries today.
The building is named after a Venezuelan industrialist and continues to host opera and dance performances today. Original seats, boxes, and ceilings decorated with murals by artist Camilo Toro Salaya remain in place.
The building is located at Avenida 56 number 270 between streets 27 and 29 in the city center. Visitors should allow time to explore the interior fully and appreciate the decorative details throughout.
The interior blends Carrara marble decorations with hand-carved Cuban hardwoods in intricate detail. The facade features gold-leafed mosaics that introduce French design influences to the building's appearance.
