San Jerónimo de Tunán District spans across 20.99 square kilometers of land at an elevation of 3,274 meters in the Junín region of Peru.
The district, established on October 5, 1854, evolved from a 16th-century settlement during the Spanish colonial period into an important administrative territory.
Local artisans maintain workshops dedicated to silver and gold jewelry crafting, producing pieces recognized throughout Peru for their craftsmanship.
The district contains eight distinct neighborhoods, including La Esperanza, 2 de Mayo, Huando, Pumacusma, Tunán, San Cristóbal, Tambo Anya, and Santa Rosa.
The traditional dance of Los Avelinos, which originated during the War of the Pacific, received national cultural heritage status in July 2008.
