Dziani Boundouni

Dziani Boundouni is a freshwater lake in eastern Mohéli surrounded by dense tropical vegetation and volcanic rock formations. The water basin supports numerous wading birds and herons that inhabit the shoreline throughout the year.

The lake received Ramsar site designation in 1995, recognizing its importance as an internationally significant wetland. This designation provided formal protection for the ecosystem and its bird populations.
