Cukang Taneuh, Natural canyon in Pangandaran, Indonesia
Cukang Taneuh is a limestone canyon in Pangandaran where the Cijulang River flows through dense vegetation, creating a natural passage about three kilometers long. The steep walls frame the river water, while the banks and rock formations are heavily covered with tropical plants.
A French explorer brought attention to this place in the 1990s and named it Green Canyon after a similar formation in Colorado. This brought increased visits and helped the region gain recognition for its natural richness.
The name Cukang Taneuh comes from the Sundanese language and means Earth Bridge, reflecting how local people understand this geological formation. The towering walls and flowing water shape the experience visitors have when moving through the canyon.
Access is through the Ciseureuh Dock, where boats carry visitors through the canyon and run regularly from morning to late afternoon. The ride is suitable for all ages, and it is wise to wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes since you may get wet.
The Palatar waterfall greets arrivals at the entrance with a striking display of falling water. Beyond this lies an underground system featuring natural caves decorated with stalactites and stalagmites that follow the river's path.
