Curug Orok, Mountain waterfall in Cikandang village, Garut, Indonesia
Curug Orok is a waterfall located near Mount Papandayan that drops 45 meters from a height of about 250 meters above the base. The water flows in two distinct sections, creating separate cascades that fall one after another down the rock face.
The waterfall was developed as a tourist attraction in 1996, relatively recently in its modern history. Local management took over operations and built the infrastructure to welcome visitors to the site.
The name comes from a tragic event in 1986 involving a local woman, with 'Orok' meaning baby in Sundanese. Locals and visitors see the two sections of the waterfall as representing a mother and child, keeping this story alive through the landscape.
To reach the waterfall, visitors must descend 200 meters of stairs, so sturdy footwear is recommended for the walk. At the base you will find toilets, parking areas, prayer rooms, and food stalls for refreshments.
The two waterfall sections appear dramatically different depending on water flow and time of day, with lighting and water movement creating varying visual effects. This means the experience changes with each visit, offering different perspectives on the same cascade.
