Mount Pelion West, Mountain summit in Central Highlands, Tasmania, Australia.
Mount Pelion West rises to 1,560 meters above sea level, making it the fourth highest mountain in Tasmania, featuring extensive dolerite formations.
Keith Ernest Lancaster completed the first documented climb of Mount Pelion West on January 30, 1946, encountering dense vegetation and large boulder fields.
The mountain region holds significance for Aboriginal communities who maintained sustainable relationships with the land before European settlement arrived in Tasmania.
Climbers can access the northeastern trail starting 250 meters east of Pelion Creek crossing, marked by two perpendicular logs near the Overland Track.
The summit demands navigation through 500 meters of massive dolerite boulders, presenting a more demanding ascent than neighboring Mount Ossa or Mount Pelion East.
