Queensland Brewery Company Building

The Queensland Brewery Company Building is a three-story brick building on Ann Street featuring geometric shapes, light colors, and extensive glass areas as key design elements. The ground and first floors contained administrative offices, while the top floor housed storage and facilities for wine and spirits.

The building was constructed in 1940 following a design by H.S. Macdonald as the new headquarters for the Queensland Brewery Company, replacing their former facility on Queen Street. The company operated from this location until 1942, when it ceased its activities there.

The building reflects 1940s Art Deco design with clean lines and bright surfaces that capture the style of that era. The mix of geometric forms and generous glass areas helped define a new design language emerging in Brisbane at the time.

The building sits in Fortitude Valley in a central location and is easy to access since it sits directly on a main street. Visitors can explore the exterior and appreciate the architecture from outside without any special arrangements needed.

The main entry features an asymmetrical three-story space whose decorative details have remained largely unchanged since construction. These preserved original elements give visitors a direct sense of the style and design intent from the time it was built.
