Orient Hotel, Brisbane

The Orient Hotel occupies three floors with a triangular design, featuring iron columns, leadlight windows, and pressed metal ceilings at the intersection of Queen and Ann Streets.

Originally established as the Excelsior Hotel in 1875 by John Morse, the building received a third floor extension in 1884 under the designs of architect Richard Gailey.

The hotel stands as one of the last remaining 19th century accommodations in central Brisbane, displaying architectural elements from the colonial period of Queensland.

Located between Brisbane Central Business District and Fortitude Valley, the establishment continues to function as a hotel while offering contemporary dining and drinking spaces.

The structure maintains its original 1870s-80s footprint despite extensive urban redevelopment, preserving a rare example of Victorian-era hotel architecture in Brisbane.
