Orient Hotel, Brisbane, Heritage hotel and pub at Queen Street, Brisbane, Australia.
The Orient Hotel is a three-story building with a triangular shape at the corner of Queen and Ann Street, marked by iron columns and pressed metal ceilings. The structure houses contemporary dining and drinking spaces today while continuing to serve as a lodging establishment.
The building was founded as the Excelsior Hotel in 1875 and received a third floor addition in 1884 designed by architect Richard Gailey. This expansion marked an important moment in the growth of Brisbane's business district.
The building displays decorative metalwork and leadlight windows that reflect how Brisbane looked in the 1800s, showing the architectural taste of that colonial period. Visitors walking through can see these hand-finished details that set it apart from newer structures around it.
The hotel sits between the city center and Fortitude Valley, two important neighborhoods for visitors. Its location makes it easy to reach on foot and to explore the surrounding streets.
The building has kept its original footprint from the 1870s and 1880s while the entire city transformed around it. This makes it a rare glimpse of how Brisbane looked in those decades.
