Everglades National Park, National park in South Florida, US.

The Everglades National Park spans 1.5 million acres of wetlands, containing sawgrass marshes, hardwood hammocks, mangrove forests, and marine waters along Florida's southern tip.

Following Ernest F. Coe's conservation campaign in the 1920s, the park received federal protection in 1947 as the first national park dedicated to preserving subtropical ecosystems.

Native American tribes Tequesta and Calusa utilized the Everglades as natural boundaries for their territories while maintaining seasonal settlements within the region.

Three separate entrance points serve the park from different cities, requiring visitors to use personal vehicles as the access points remain unconnected by internal roads.

The park functions as critical habitat for 36 threatened species, including the American crocodile, Florida panther, and West Indian manatee in its subtropical environment.
