Old Collier County Courthouse
Old Collier County Courthouse, Neoclassical courthouse in Everglades City, Florida.
The Old Collier County Courthouse is a two-story concrete and stucco building located in Everglades City with tall columns, symmetrical proportions, and ornamental pediments characteristic of Neoclassical design. Its facade presents a formal and balanced appearance typical of courthouse architecture from that period.
The courthouse was built in 1926 by Barron Collier and served as the primary seat of justice for Collier County for over three decades. After 1962, when county administration relocated to East Naples, the building transitioned to different community roles.
The building shows how the justice system looked and functioned in this region during its early years. Visitors can observe how the architecture expressed authority and order, values that were central to a courthouse's purpose.
The building is situated in downtown Everglades City and remains accessible to visitors interested in local history. It currently operates as a venue for community events and educational programs throughout the year.
The building was documented in a Florida architecture guide in 1989, more than two decades before its National Register listing in 2013. This early recognition shows that preservation experts understood its historical value long before official designation.
