The Statue of Christopher Columbus in Bayfront Park is a dark bronze figure of a standing man in period clothing, cape and boots, mounted on a tall cylindrical pedestal of light gray stone. The pedestal carries a plaque reading "CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS" above a darker rectangular plaque with smaller text. Two low gray stone planter boxes with pink-flowered plants flank the base, which stands on a light gray stone slab above a low stone bench.

The statue was sculpted by Count Vittorio di Colbertaldo (1902–1979) of Verona, one of Benito Mussolini's hand-picked ceremonial bodyguards known as the "Black Musketeers," who also produced statues commemorating the organization. A second Columbus statue by Colbertaldo stood in San Francisco until its removal in 2020. The Miami statue was vandalized in June 2020 during the George Floyd protests.

The bronze figure was made by Count Vittorio di Colbertaldo of Verona, one of Benito Mussolini's hand-picked ceremonial bodyguards, the "Black Musketeers", for whom he also sculpted commemorative works. In June 2020, during the George Floyd protests, the statue was vandalized, making it a local reference point in debates over public monuments.

The statue stands in Bayfront Park at the coordinates 25.77633, -80.18489, on a light gray stone slab above a low stone bench, with two low planter boxes of pink-flowered plants flanking the pedestal. Visitors approach on foot along the park paths; the slab and bench form a small platform around the base.

The sculptor, Count Vittorio di Colbertaldo of Verona, had served among Benito Mussolini's hand-picked ceremonial bodyguards, the "Black Musketeers", and produced statues commemorating that corps.
