Olympia School, Schule in den Vereinigten Staaten
Olympia School is a school building listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Hobe Sound, Florida, constructed in 1925. The building originally contained just two rooms and served as a central place for education and community life in the growing town.
The school opened in October 1925 when Hobe Sound was still developing as a town. It closed in 1962 due to overcrowding, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002 to protect its role in the community's past.
The school was closely tied to Hobe Sound's identity, as the town was originally named Olympia. Its simple design reflects the practical style of rural schools from that era and shows how education and community life were connected in this part of Florida.
The building now operates as a community center hosting events and activities focused on history and education. Visitors can walk around to see the simple exterior architecture and get a sense of what rural schools looked like in that era.
It is the only schoolhouse in Martin County to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Artists have created works depicting both the first day of school in October 1925 and the building's reopening in 2014.
