Opening its doors on July 5, 1988, Maelstrom operated for 26 years until October 2014, when it closed to make space for the Frozen Ever After attraction.
The ride incorporated elements from Norse mythology, featuring traditional characters such as trolls, Vikings, and seafarers while presenting scenes of Norwegian maritime history.
Visitors could use FastPass services to reduce waiting times, which ranged from 5 minutes during low seasons to 130 minutes during peak periods.
The attraction combined two distinct drops, including a 28-foot descent, with a section where trolls magically pushed boats backward through dark passages.
