Horizons, Dark ride attraction in Future World, EPCOT, US.
Horizons was a ride in the Future World section of Epcot that took guests through different visions of possible future environments. The system used hanging vehicles that moved slowly along a track, offering views of space stations, undersea colonies, and desert habitats.
General Electric funded the ride from its opening in October 1983 and ended sponsorship in December 1994. After that period operations were reduced and the ride closed permanently in January 1999.
The attraction influenced theme park design by introducing interactive endings, allowing guests to select their preferred conclusion through video screens in ride vehicles.
The ride lasted roughly fifteen minutes and traveled over four hundred meters of track through several themed areas. Each vehicle seated three passengers and moved continuously without stops through the facility.
In the final months of operation two visitors systematically filmed every area of the ride and created a complete visual archive. These recordings later became the main source for researchers and fans studying the history of the attraction.
