El Rio del Tiempo

El Rio del Tiempo was a boat ride in the Mexico Pavilion that carried visitors through colorful scenes of Mexican life. Audio-animatronic figures, traditional music, and detailed decorations lined the water channels throughout the journey.

The attraction opened on October 1, 1982, as one of the original rides at EPCOT park. It operated until January 2007, when it was transformed into a different experience.

The boat journey showed Mexican traditions through scenes of markets, folk dances, and regional celebrations across different time periods. Visitors experienced the diversity of Mexican cultures through detailed environments and traditional music.

The ride lasted about eight minutes and carried sixteen passengers per boat. The temple structure was easy to access and lines typically moved at a steady pace.

The ride combined mechanical figures with environmental effects to show everyday Mexican activities to visitors. The music selection was specially composed to represent different regions and their characteristic sounds.
