Abbott Tract Historic District, Historic district in St. Augustine, United States.
Abbott Tract Historic District is a residential neighborhood in St. Augustine spanning roughly 33 acres along Matanzas Bay and containing about 124 buildings between Pine, San Marco, and Shenandoah Avenues. Most houses date from the 1860s through early 1900s and retain their original architectural features.
Lucy Abbott began developing this area in 1860 by purchasing land north of Castillo de San Marcos and constructing nine structures between 1861 and 1894. By 1904 the area had grown into a complete residential development with roughly 126 houses lining the streets.
The neighborhood displays a mix of architectural styles shaped by different periods. You can see Bungalow, Craftsman, Mission, and Spanish Revival houses standing together, showing how tastes and building techniques changed over several decades.
When exploring this residential area, expect most houses to be privately owned and viewable only from the outside. The best time to walk and photograph the architecture is early in the day when streets are quieter and light is better for capturing details.
The name comes from Lucy Abbott, a 19th-century entrepreneur whose personal vision shaped this entire residential project. She played an active role in designing the area, making her a notable figure in St. Augustine's history.
