Spanish Military Hospital Museum

The Spanish Military Hospital Museum is a reconstructed building showing the medical care provided to Spanish soldiers, with surgical instruments, herbs, and colonial-era medical supplies on display. The original facility served as an active military hospital from 1784 to 1821, meeting the medical needs of the Spanish garrison stationed there. The building was reconstructed in 1966 to restore its historical appearance and layout as accurately as possible.

The space shows how colonial doctors blended European medical knowledge with local plant remedies that grew in the region. Visitors can see the actual herbs used in treatment and understand how medical care was deeply connected to what grew nearby.
