Burns Club Atlanta, Literary society in Ormewood Park, Atlanta, United States
Burns Club Atlanta is a private membership organization in the Ormewood Park neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia, housed in a replica stone cottage with granite walls and tall ceilings. The interior is decorated with Scottish clan banners, and the space is used for readings, gatherings, and educational events.
The club was founded in 1896, and in 1911 it completed a reproduction of the cottage in Alloway, Scotland, where Robert Burns was born. The original building served as a direct model for the materials and layout used in Atlanta.
The club takes its name from the Scottish poet Robert Burns, whose birthday on January 25 is celebrated each year with a traditional dinner known as a Burns Supper. At these gatherings, poems are read aloud and Scottish customs are observed in ways that visitors can directly experience.
Burns Club Atlanta is a private venue generally open only to members and invited guests. Anyone hoping to see the inside should ask about membership or upcoming events well before planning a visit.
Some of the stone used to build the Atlanta cottage was imported directly from Scotland, so the replica would match the original as closely as possible. This makes it one of the few buildings outside Scotland constructed with actual Scottish stone.
