Alliance Theatre, Theater company in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Alliance Theatre is a theatrical company based in Atlanta, Georgia, operating two performance halls inside the Woodruff Arts Center on Peachtree Street. One hall seats around 650 people and the other around 200, allowing the company to stage productions of very different scales.
The company was founded in 1968 under the name Atlanta Municipal Theatre, opening its first season with a production of King Arthur. It took its current name the following year and has grown steadily since then.
The Alliance Theatre produces original plays for young audiences each season, written and staged specifically for children and teens. These productions draw school groups from across the region, making the theater a regular part of classroom life in Georgia.
The theater is inside the Woodruff Arts Center, where several museums and performance spaces are grouped together, making it easy to combine visits in a single trip. The center is well served by MARTA rail and has parking available nearby for those arriving by car.
Over its history, the company has premiered more than a hundred original works that were new to the stage. Nine of those productions later transferred to Broadway, a rare outcome for a regional theater.
