Broad River Bridge, Road bridge in Beaufort County, South Carolina
Broad River Bridge is a road bridge that crosses the waterway to link two sections of Beaufort County with dedicated traffic lanes. The structure uses a fixed-span design rather than a movable mechanism, allowing continuous passage regardless of water traffic.
The original structure was a drawbridge with two lanes built in 1958 to cross the river. In 2004 it was replaced with a new fixed-span bridge that provided more traffic capacity.
The bridge functions as a central point for local outdoor activities, with portions of the former structure now serving as a community fishing dock.
The bridge is in good condition and clearly marked, making it straightforward to navigate and cross. It remains open year-round as a reliable transportation route serving daily traffic.
The structure features a box girder design and spans 7,308.1 feet, making it one of the longest bridges in the coastal region of South Carolina.
