Cassina Point is a two-and-a-half-story plantation house on Edisto Island with a rectangular floor plan and raised brick foundation. The building features horizontal wood siding and a covered front porch with five bays and simple columns supporting the roof.
The house was built between 1847 and 1848 for James Hopkinson and Carolina Lafayette Seabrook Hopkinson as a cotton production center. During the Civil War, the Third New Hampshire Regiment used it as headquarters and documented the property through photographs.

The property sits on Olde Cassina Point Road on Edisto Island and covers roughly 140 acres of land. A tidal creek runs through the grounds and feeds into the Dawhoo River.
The property takes its name from Ilex cassine, a type of holly plant that grows abundantly across the grounds. These dahoon holly plants characterize the vegetation throughout the surrounding landscape.
