The renowned architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill completed the structure in the early 1970s while respecting the city's height restrictions. The building became part of the urban fabric during a period of significant downtown transformation.
The building hosts multiple international organizations, including Cathay Pacific's North American headquarters and the Consulate General of Tonga, giving the space a cosmopolitan character.
The building opens directly onto Union Square, a location with excellent public transit connections and abundant foot traffic. The site is easily accessible on foot and sits in the middle of the commercial district.
The entrance facade displays Art Deco details with a granite arch and polished stainless steel door, topped by a replica of the famous Atlas clock. These classical ornaments are a remnant of another architectural era.
