Pioneer Amphitheatre, Performing arts center in Hayward Hills, California, US
Pioneer Amphitheatre is an outdoor venue located on the California State University East Bay campus in the northeastern section of the grounds. The space features open-air seating and serves as a stage for concerts, festivals, and academic events such as graduation ceremonies.
Management transitioned to Sequoia Management Group in 2004, shifting the focus from university music performances to larger entertainment productions. This change enabled the venue to attract major touring artists and festivals to the campus.
The Stone Soul Picnic festival brings Urban Adult Contemporary, soul, and R&B artists to perform here, drawing crowds who come to experience live music in the open air. This event has become a regular gathering for fans of these music genres.
The location is easily accessible from the university grounds, though direct parking at the amphitheatre is limited so using campus parking areas is recommended. Arriving early for events helps secure good seating and allows time to settle into the open-air setting before performances begin.
The inaugural Stone Soul Picnic festival in May 2004 featured The Isley Brothers, Teena Marie, Cameo, and Rick James performing at the venue. This landmark event helped establish what would become a signature music festival at this location.
