Cascade Theatre, Art Deco theatre in downtown Redding, United States.
Cascade Theatre is an Art Deco building in downtown Redding featuring a large vertical neon sign on its exterior and a detailed frieze depicting California industries around the upper section of the facade. The structure seats approximately 997 guests and combines theatre and retail spaces, with shops occupying the ground floor.
The building was constructed in 1935 for the Naify family's Golden State Theaters chain and became the first air-conditioned public building in northern California. This combination of modern technological comfort and entertainment made it a landmark during the region's growth period.
The theatre maintains its original seating layout with orchestra and balcony sections, where symphony concerts, ballet performances, and live shows regularly take place. Visitors experience how the space continues to serve its primary purpose of hosting diverse artistic performances for the community.
The venue accommodates approximately 997 guests and provides wheelchair accessibility with dedicated spaces for people with mobility needs. Ground-level retail spaces offer opportunities to explore shops before or after attending a performance.
The interior features custom-made light fixtures throughout the lobby and a sloping ceiling that descends into the main auditorium decorated with murals. These details showcase the craftsmanship and attention to design characteristic of the Art Deco period.
