Fern Canyon, Natural canyon formation in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, California.
Home Creek flows through narrow walls reaching 50 feet in height, completely covered with different species of ancient ferns and thick moss.
The Pacific Lumber Company donated 2,125 acres of land containing Fern Canyon to establish part of Prairie Creek State Park.
The natural formation served as a filming location for The Lost World: Jurassic Park and BBC's Walking with Dinosaurs productions.
Visitors need advance day-use reservations between May and September, with entry fees of 12 dollars payable only in cash or check.
Seven distinct fern species inhabit the canyon walls, including specimens from plant families dating back 325 million years.
