Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint, Coastal observation point in Depoe Bay, United States.
Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint is a coastal observation area along the Oregon shore where rocky basalt formations jut into the ocean. The site features multiple vantage points where crashing waves can be watched continuously throughout the year.
The bay took its name from the cargo ship J. Marhoffer, which exploded and sank in 1910 off this coast. The ship's boiler remained visible in the water during low tide periods for many years.
The site draws visitors who come to watch gray whales pass by during their yearly journey along the coast. People gather at the observation areas to experience this natural event and connect with the migrating animals.
The viewpoint is easily reached directly from Highway 101 and has parking areas and observation platforms ready to use. You can visit at any time during daylight hours without needing reservations.
The waters around this bay host many ocean birds including albatrosses and shearwaters that are rarely seen elsewhere. Birdwatchers come here specifically to spot these seabird species in their natural habitat.
