Linklater Commons, Mediterranean Revival office building in downtown Hillsboro, US.
Linklater Commons is a two-story office building in downtown Hillsboro featuring a gray stucco exterior and distinctive Mediterranean architectural details. The concrete structure now houses various professional services, including the Legal Aid office for Washington County.
Built in 1923 as a residence for Zula Warren Linklater, the building was renovated in 1984 to accommodate office spaces. The renovation preserved the original design and maintained the architectural features from its construction period.
The building shows how Hillsboro transformed its downtown by converting residential homes into business spaces while keeping the distinctive architectural style. Visitors can still see the Mediterranean design elements that mark this house as an important part of the local architectural story.
The building sits on Second Avenue in downtown Hillsboro and is easily visible from the street. Its facade and architectural features can be viewed from outside, as it remains an active office building.
It was the only residence in Hillsboro built entirely from concrete during the 1920s. This unusual material choice made it a striking example of experimental building techniques from that era.
