Venetian Theatre

The Venetian Theatre is a two-story Italianate building in downtown Hillsboro containing multiple event spaces and a restaurant inside. The complex features various rooms designed to accommodate different types of gatherings and performances.

The building started as a bank in 1888 and was converted to a theater in 1911. A major renovation in 1925 updated the structure and prepared it for its new role as an entertainment venue.

The name references Venice and reflects the Italian architectural style that visitors encounter throughout the building. For generations, this space has served as a gathering place for community celebrations, cultural events, and shared entertainment experiences.

The venue is available for rent for weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations with catering and production support available on-site. Multiple room configurations allow groups to select spaces matching their event size and type.

The theater showed Hillsboro's first sound film in 1929 to an audience of more than a thousand people at once. During the Great Depression, it offered free holiday screenings to support the community and hosted graduation ceremonies and cooking demonstrations.
