Hondo Dog Park, Dog park in Hillsboro, Oregon, US
Hondo Dog Park is a nearly four-acre dog park in Hillsboro with divided sections for small and large dogs, offering gravel pathways and multiple exercise areas. The grounds include water stations, double-gated entries, and seating throughout.
This dog park opened in September 2007 as Hillsboro's first of its kind, named after a police dog killed in a shootout in 1997. The naming honors a K-9 officer whose life ended during that dangerous encounter.
This place serves as a memorial to a fallen police dog, with decorated fire hydrants honoring the connection the community felt to this working animal.
The park features wheelchair-accessible paths and water stations positioned throughout the grounds for easy access. Visitors should note that the double-gated entrances are designed to prevent dogs from escaping, requiring attention when entering each section.
The park bears the name of a police K-9 who earned a Silver Medal of Valor during his two years of service and helped capture more than 30 suspects. He remains the only Hillsboro K-9 officer to have given his life in the line of duty.
