Cooper Spur ski area, Ski resort in Mount Hood, Oregon.
Cooper Spur is a ski area on the northeastern slopes of Mount Hood in Oregon, served by a double chair lift and a surface lift. The terrain is compact and covers a range of difficulty levels, from gentle beginner slopes to intermediate runs.
The ski area was developed in the mid-20th century on a part of Mount Hood that had seen little winter recreational use before. Its opening helped bring winter visitors to the northeastern side of the mountain for the first time on a regular basis.
Cooper Spur has a reputation as a low-key place for families and beginners, far from the crowds of larger resorts. Many visitors return season after season, drawn by the relaxed pace on the slopes.
The site offers overnight stays in log cabins and a mountain lodge, making it a good base for a longer visit. A restaurant on site means you do not need to leave the mountain to eat during your stay.
About 40 percent of the runs at Cooper Spur are designed specifically for people who have never skied before or are just starting out. This makes it one of the few ski areas in Oregon with such a clear focus on first-time skiers.
