Crofton Mill, Paper and pulp facility in Crofton, Canada
Crofton Mill is a pulp and paper facility on Vancouver Island that produces bleached kraft pulp and paper products for worldwide markets. The operation uses a deep-sea port for shipping and runs multiple production machines at its waterfront location.
The mill started as a kraft pulp facility in 1957 and added a newsprint production line in 1964, expanding its product range. This growth allowed the site to serve different market segments and become a major production center.
The mill works with Cowichan Tribes First Nation on resource protection and environmental care of the surrounding lands. These partnerships shape how the operation relates to local communities today.
The facility is located at a site with good access conditions and is easily reached from the coastal road. Keep in mind it remains an active production operation, so visitor access may be limited based on safety and security rules.
The facility meets roughly a fifth of its energy needs through on-site renewable power generation. The mill also relies on the natural water system from nearby Cowichan Lake to support its production processes.
