Surrey

Surrey is a large city in the Metro Vancouver Regional District of Canada, spreading south of the Fraser River across residential areas, commercial zones, green spaces, and industrial sectors. The municipality covers a wide expanse and includes several distinct neighborhoods with different characters, from quiet suburbs to busy shopping streets.

The settlement was founded in 1879 and took its name from Surrey County in England because early residents saw similarities in the landscapes. Over time, the area transformed from a rural community into a major growth center within the Metro Vancouver region.

The community speaks around 100 different languages, and in many places you see signs in Punjabi or Hindi. The streets feature temples, gurudwaras, and restaurants that shape the daily life of many South Asian immigrants.

The SkyTrain Expo Line connects several stations in the municipality with downtown Vancouver and offers frequent service throughout the day. TransLink buses complement the rail network and reach neighborhoods farther from the train stops.

The museum presents interactive exhibits about regional history and regularly organizes programs on local themes. Surprisingly, it ranks as the second-largest public art institution in the Greater Vancouver area by size.
