Garibaldi Névé, Glacier on Mount Garibaldi, British Columbia, Canada

Garibaldi Névé spreads across the northern and eastern slopes of Mount Garibaldi as a large expanse of glacial ice and snow. This ice field feeds nine separate outlet glaciers that drain meltwater in different directions.

Mountaineers first reached this glacial expanse in 1907 during the initial ascent of Mount Garibaldi, named after Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi. The mountain and its ice field gained recognition among climbers as access routes were established.

The Squamish people know this mountain as Nch'ḵay̓, and the ice expanse reflects their deep connection to the region's water systems and glaciated peaks.

The main route starts at Diamond Head parking lot and follows a marked trail past Elfin Lakes with cairns guiding the way. Visitors need experience with mountain navigation and glacier safety practices.

The ice field constantly moves while draining eastward into the Pitt River through multiple glacial streams that originate from varying elevations. This persistent ice movement creates ever-changing surface features that reveal how dynamic this glacial system remains.
