Atwell Peak, Volcanic summit in Garibaldi Provincial Park, Canada
Atwell Peak is a volcanic mountain in the Cascade Range within Garibaldi Provincial Park, reaching approximately 2655 meters in height. The summit features steep slopes and three distinct ridges formed from dacite rock.
The first recorded ascent took place in 1911 when five mountaineers reached the summit despite challenging conditions. Subsequent expeditions have further refined understanding of the routes and terrain.
Local climbers and hiking groups regularly pursue routes on this summit as a test of skill and endurance. The mountain holds value within British Columbia's mountaineering community for its technical challenges.
Access to the mountain starts from the Sea-to-Sky Highway, continuing on gravel roads to base camps on the southeast side. Visitors need mountaineering skills and should be prepared for challenging alpine conditions.
Two small pocket glaciers sit on the east side of the mountain, changing gradually over time. The Diamond Glacier to the southeast and Bishop Glacier to the northeast reveal how glaciation shapes the landscape here.
