Mount Richardson Provincial Park, Provincial park in Sunshine Coast Regional District, Canada
Mount Richardson Provincial Park is a forest reserve on the east side of Sechelt Inlet covering 1,001 hectares and rising to 986 meters in elevation. The park is accessed through three boat-reachable camping areas at Oyster Beach, Nine Mile Point, and Tuwanek, each equipped with basic facilities like pit toilets and fire rings.
The park received official protection status on June 28, 1999, as part of British Columbia's effort to safeguard natural landscapes for the future. This designation helped preserve one of the region's lesser-visited coastal areas from further development or disturbance.
The area around Tuwanek holds ties to the Sechelt Nation's long presence in these coastal waters and forests, where they established their way of living for centuries. Walking through the park today, you can sense how closely the land and the people's traditions remain connected.
The area is only reachable by boat, so plan your visit from the coast and pay attention to tidal schedules. The camping areas provide only basic facilities, so bring everything you need for a simple outdoor stay.
The forested area hosts numerous wildlife species across different elevation zones, including black bears, cougars, flying squirrels, and turkey vultures. These different animals reveal how varied the habitats are throughout the park.
