Mount Starr King, Granite dome summit in Mariposa County, United States.
Mount Starr King rises to 9,096 feet with steep granite walls extending from its base to the peak, forming three distinct domes aligned north to south.
George Bailey and E.S. Schuyler completed the first documented climb of Mount Starr King in August 1876, accessing the summit through the northeast side route.
The mountain bears the name of Thomas Starr King, a Unitarian minister who played a crucial role in keeping California aligned with the Union during the Civil War.
Climbers access the summit via the Mono Meadow Trailhead, covering 11 miles round trip with a 3,700-foot elevation gain through class 2 to class 5.2 routes.
The mountain's smooth granite surface changes its technical rating over time, evolving from class 4 to class 5.2 on the northeast side due to natural weathering.
