Las Vegas Indian Colony, Native American reservation in Las Vegas, US.
Las Vegas Indian Colony is a 10-acre reservation located at the intersection of North Main Street and Paiute Drive in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. The settlement contains homes, businesses, and community facilities that form the center of Southern Paiute life in the city.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs established the colony in 1911 by purchasing land from Helen J. Stewart to protect Southern Paiute communities. This initial effort to preserve Paiute presence in the region evolved over decades as the community adapted to urban life.
The colony remains a center where Southern Paiute people maintain their heritage while running contemporary businesses that serve the community. Daily life reflects both traditional values and modern needs shared by residents and visitors.
The reservation is easily accessible via public roads and lies within walking distance of downtown attractions. Plan to visit during daytime hours when businesses and community spaces are open to the public.
In 1983, Congress added 3,800 acres of land northwest of the city to expand the colony's territory significantly. This expansion enabled the community to pursue larger economic development initiatives beyond the downtown core.
