North Schell Peak, Mountain peak in White Pine County, Nevada, US.
North Schell Peak is the highest summit in the Schell Creek Range, rising to about 11,900 feet within the rugged landscape of White Pine County. The mountain chain extends across raw and isolated terrain with rock formations and sparse vegetation, typical of Great Basin mountain ranges.
The mountain chain takes its name from Schell Creek, a waterway identified during the exploration and settlement of eastern Nevada in the 1800s. The region remained sparsely populated and mainly served as a passage route for travelers and ranchers.
This summit ranks as Nevada's ninth-highest peak and holds the fifth position among the state's most topographically prominent mountains.
The best time to visit is from June through September, when higher elevations are snow-free and conditions remain more stable. Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and warm layers for rapid temperature changes, as the altitude and open terrain offer little shelter.
The mountain's prominence measures 5,403 feet, placing it as the 93rd most prominent peak across the entire United States territory.
