Rhodes Cabin

Rhodes Cabin is a single-room structure located within Great Basin National Park near the Lehman Caves entrance. The building has two doors, four windows, and occupies a footprint of roughly 19 by 11 feet (6 by 3 meters).

Local contractor Charles Davis built this structure in 1928 to serve as lodging for park concessioners Clarence and Bea Rhodes. The state of Nevada purchased it in 1932 and transferred ownership to the National Park Service shortly after.

The structure shows how national parks in the early twentieth century adapted to welcoming visitors with simple lodging. It reflects a building style shaped by the needs of desert travel and the landscape itself.

The cabin is accessible through facilities at Great Basin National Park visitor center, where maps and orientation materials are available. The site sits near the main park entrance, making it easy to include in a broader visit to other attractions.

The cabin started as a private business venture for the Rhodes family before becoming public property. It remains a reminder of how early national parks balanced commercial operations with land conservation.
