Abajo Peak

Abajo Peak is the highest summit in the Abajo Mountains and sits within the Manti-La Sal National Forest in Utah. The mountain rises to about 3,465 meters and stands out across the surrounding landscape with its distinctive rocky profile.

The region was inhabited for generations by Native American tribes before European settlers began arriving in the 1800s. These earlier inhabitants shaped the cultural history of the area over centuries.

The peak serves as a research location for scientists studying high-elevation environments and documenting the behavior of local wildlife species.

Reaching the top requires sturdy footwear and careful preparation for changing weather, especially during winter months. The best time to hike here is from early summer through early fall when conditions are most manageable.

Radio towers at the summit create a distinctive silhouette visible from the nearby town of Monticello. These technological structures provide an unusual contrast to the natural mountain ridge.
