Pete V. Domenici United States Courthouse, Federal courthouse in downtown Albuquerque, United States.
The Pete V. Domenici United States Courthouse is a seven-story building located at 333 Lomas Boulevard with natural masonry walls and vertical window openings. The interior features a central atrium with a domed skylight that brings daylight down through all levels of the structure.
Construction of this courthouse began after the demolition of McClellan Park in 1996, with the building completed in 1998. The project replaced a historic park with a new federal judicial facility at this downtown location.
The Madonna of the Trail statue at the northwest corner connects the building to its predecessor and serves as a reminder of the location's earlier purpose. This monument stands quietly, marking a transition between what was here before and what exists today.
Entry requires government-issued photo identification and the building is open on weekdays for visitors. The ten elevators provide convenient access to all floors and various areas within the courthouse.
The building uses native plants and rainwater cisterns for irrigation instead of traditional grass lawns throughout its grounds. This water-saving approach reflects an early commitment to conservation in Albuquerque's desert environment.
