Red Fleet State Park, State park in Uintah County, US.
Red Fleet State Park is a state park in Uintah County featuring a reservoir surrounded by red sandstone cliffs. The water is bordered by rock formations that rise directly from the shore, creating a dramatic natural landscape.
The area became a state park in 1988 to protect a region with dinosaur trackways from the early Jurassic period about 200 million years ago. These ancient footprints are preserved in the rock layers and tell a story from a distant past.
The name comes from distinctive red sandstone cliffs that resemble a fleet of ships sailing across the desert landscape. You notice this resemblance most clearly when sunlight illuminates the rock formations along the water.
The park has camping spots with fire rings and picnic tables, plus boat launches and swimming areas along the water. Trails around the reservoir let you explore the landscape and see the rock formations from different angles.
Visitors can see over 40 dinosaur footprints of different sizes along a trackway trail on the eastern shore of the reservoir. Some of these impressions are just a few centimeters across, while others are noticeably larger and show different species.
