Red Fleet State Park, State park in Uintah County, US.
Red Fleet State Park is a Utah state park in Uintah County built around a reservoir set among red sandstone formations. The rocky shoreline rises steeply from the water's edge, and the park also contains a trail that leads to a dinosaur trackway on the eastern shore.
The area holds dinosaur trackways from the early Jurassic period, left in the rock roughly 200 million years ago. The site was established as a state park in 1988 to protect these fossil traces along with the surrounding land.
The name of the park refers to the red sandstone formations that look like a fleet of ships sailing across the desert. This resemblance is easiest to see when you stand near the water and look toward the rocks along the shore.
The park offers boat launches, swimming areas, and campsites, so it works well as a base for a day or an overnight stay. Wearing sturdy shoes is a good idea if you plan to walk the trail to the dinosaur trackway, as the terrain is rocky in places.
The trackway trail passes more than 40 individual dinosaur footprints, some just a few centimeters wide and others noticeably larger, pointing to several different species. These prints are not behind glass but sit open in the natural rock layer right beside the water.
