Cliffhanger, Steel roller coaster at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, US
Cliffhanger is a steel roller coaster at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, built along the slope of Iron Mountain near Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The red track with blue supports follows a chain lift hill, a second hill, and a spiral turn, all at around 7,160 feet (2,180 m) above sea level.
The coaster first opened in 1999 under the name Firestorm in Branson, Missouri, where it ran until 2012. It was then dismantled, moved to Glenwood Springs, and reopened under its current name in June 2012.
The coaster sits on the side of a mountain at around 7,160 feet (2,180 m) and offers views of Glenwood Canyon that you would normally only see on a hike. Many visitors come specifically for that view, not just the ride itself.
Riders must meet a minimum height requirement to ride alone, while younger children can ride with adult supervision. A liability waiver is required before boarding and can be filled out online before your visit to avoid waiting at the gate.
The machine was originally built in Italy and has operated in two different states under two different names before reaching its current home. That makes it one of the few coasters in the US that was first assembled and run in another country.
