St. Benedict's Monastery

St. Benedict's Monastery occupies 3,000 acres of land in the foothills of the Elk Mountains, adjacent to the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness area.

The monastery began in 1956 when Trappist monks from St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, established a new community in the Colorado mountains.

The monks maintain their traditional practices through ranch management, cookie production, and offering retreat facilities for individuals seeking spiritual guidance.

The property includes 18,000 square feet of buildings with housing facilities, worship spaces, a bookstore, retreat cabins, and agricultural structures.

The monastery maintains 1,200 acres of irrigated land for cattle grazing, contributing to agricultural production in the Roaring Fork Valley.
