Conifer is a mountain community in the foothills southwest of Denver, situated along U.S. Route 285 at approximately 8,200 feet (2,500 meters) elevation. The area features forests and open slopes characteristic of the Colorado front range.
The settlement originated in the mid-1800s as Bradford Junction, serving as a stop for travelers on wagon trails. It received a post office and took the name Conifer in 1900.
The Conifer Historical Society maintains a collection of photographs and documents that tell the story of local development through mountain settlements and farming communities.
The area is spread out, so having a car is important for getting around and exploring different parts. It sits roughly 40 kilometers southwest of Denver and is accessed via U.S. Route 285.
