Mother Cabrini Shrine, Religious shrine in Golden, Colorado, United States
The Mother Cabrini Shrine in Golden is a pilgrimage site featuring a stone chapel, a 22-foot statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and a grotto built over a natural spring. The grounds also include a meditation walk, a chapel for services, and a conference center for visitors to explore.
Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini purchased this land in 1910 to establish a summer retreat for the Queen of Heaven Orphanage in Denver. The site later expanded into the pilgrimage destination it is today, serving broader spiritual purposes over the decades.
The shrine serves as a gathering place for Catholic worshippers, with daily Mass celebrated in both English and Spanish languages. People from surrounding communities come together to pray and seek spiritual reflection in this shared space.
The site opens at 7 AM and closes at 4:30 PM daily, with a gift shop and bookstore available for visitors. Comfortable footwear is recommended since the grounds feature stairs and walking paths at varying elevations.
A staircase of 373 steps leads visitors to the mountain summit, with Stations of the Cross markers placed along the climbing path. Many pilgrims undertake this climb as a meaningful personal practice during their visit.
